Spectacle de Dragon Nation

Tu étais où toi le poil qui aime le Power Metal ou le
bon Heavy Metal ce vendredi, 10 avril? Et bien, si tu n'étais pas à
l'Alizé pour le spectacle de Dragon Nation, tu as manqué quelque
chose. Le jeune groupe Dragon
Nation livrait un spectacle et faisait son lancement d'album et laissez-moi
vous dire que c'était un spectacle fort.
Je disais plus haut, «le jeune groupe», ce n'est pas parce que les
musiciens sont jeunes mais bien car le groupe existe depuis seulement 2013. Le
groupe fait des compositions dans le genre Heavy Metal Old School, Power Metal
et néo classique. Il a un album paru en 2014, du même nom que le groupe et,
semble t-il, a un autre album en cours de création. On peut dire que le groupe ne chôme pas. Lorsque le sympathique chanteur nous dit
qu'il s'est formé pour le plaisir de jouer de la musique, sans grand but et que
ses membres se voient à temps perdu pour composer leurs pièces, ma seule
réflexion est que ceux-ci ont beaucoup de temps perdu… Leurs morceaux sont joués
à la perfection, le cœur et la passion sont au rendez-vous et le talent est
évident.
Le spectacle a commencé à l'heure après un Sound check
qui m'a fait peur un peu. Le son ne
s’annonçait pas pour être bon.
Finalement, dès les premières notes du spectacle, le son était très
bien. Le public s'est avancé vers la
scène excité d'entendre les chansons. Malgré le fait que le groupe existe
depuis peu, il a des fans et la place est bien remplie. Après la première chanson, je savais que
j'avais affaire à des musiciens sérieux et d'expérience. Ils sont peut-être plus avancés dans l'âge,
mais ils ont tous l'énergie d'un petit jeune. Donc leur âge est indéfinissable.
Le dynamisme sur scène est la première chose que j'ai
remarquée de ce groupe que je découvrais ce soir là. Je ne suis pas trop dans
le Heavy ou Power Metal, mais j’apprécie toujours voir des musiciens de métal
humbles, passionnés, généreux et talentueux.
En fait, j’ai une confession à vous faire; j’aime les métalleux peu
importe le genre de métal ils jouent. J’ai été bien servie avec le groupe Dragon
Nation. L'unisson entre les
membres est parfait et j'ai été surprise d'entendre Burke Mc Auley nous dire qu'il s'agissait de leur premier
spectacle en tant que Dragon Nation.
Burke est un chanteur d'expérience qui a fait ses preuves
dans le monde du Heavy Metal. Il était effectivement le chanteur du groupe
culte Graveyard dans les années 80. Il possède un registre de notes qu’il nous
projette à merveille. Il tient ses
influences, entre autres, de Judas Priest, Helloween, King Diamond et Ronnie
James Dio. La chanson Eternity
est d’ailleurs très influencée par Ronnie James.
C'est lorsque le groupe joue ce morceau que nous voyons
aussi les grands talents de Roland Bujold.
Il inter change de la guitare classique à la guitare électrique dans la
même chanson. Pour cela, il s'est fait faire un stand pour tenir sa
guitare classique pendant qu'il glisse sa guitare électrique dans son dos. Je dois avouer que je n'ai pas vraiment
écouté la chanson ni regarder les autres musiciens à ce moment. C'était quand
même impressionnant de voir aller ce monsieur à la tête grise jouer de la
guitare comme il le fait. Il faut dire
que Roland Bujold a 30 ans d'expérience et des albums solos avec
Bujold Power Metal Band. Il nous
livre aussi une superbe pièce néo classique intitulé Burning Skies dans
laquelle on voit qu'il maîtrise plus que bien son manche à guitare et fait
aller ses doigts dessus avec rapidité et contrôle. Tellement qu'il prend une petite pause et
joue avec ses dents… Il est accompagné, pour
cette chanson, du claviériste Steve Murray.
Ce dernier est aussi un musicien hors pair. Nous avons eu
droit à un solo tout simplement hallucinant.
Je n'ai jamais vu un claviériste aussi actif sur scène auparavant. En plus de nous enchaîner des notes à une
rapidité digne de Janne Wirman, il saute sur place et semble danser entre ses 3
claviers. À ces mots, vous pouvez comprendre le calibre des musiciens qui était
sur scène ce soir là. Après ces
enchaînements de solos et de pièces à haute virtuosité, le public est plus
chaud, grâce à l’énergie fulgurante qui émane de la scène mais aussi grâce au
houblon… Le groupe continue avec Symphony
of Fire, un morceau qui a un pur goût de Power Metal.
Le batteur, Russel Labadie, nous à lui aussi démontrer son
habileté à maîtriser ses rythmes. Il utilise même un gong pour ajouter de la
texture à son solo. Avant la dernière chanson, le groupe nous fait découvrir
une pièce de leur prochain album. Onward
we march, est une composition à saveur Viking Metal. Il
doit y avoir des gens qui ont hâte d'entendre ce nouvel album car quelques
têtes légolasiennes se mettent à se faire aller ce qui rehausse l’ambiance d’un
cran malgré qu’elle fût déjà bonne.
Après le dernier morceau, le public demande un rappel. Le
groupe s'était préparé en conséquence et à jouer des classiques de
Helloween et de Deep Purple. I want out et Speed King
ont fait le grand bonheur de plusieurs dans la foule. C'est aussi lors de se rappel, que nous avons
eu un solo à la basse de Bernard «Burn»
Biron. Ce dernier assure aussi
les back vocals et amène le groupe dans une autre dimension avec ses
notions musicales. Il est professeur de
musique et spécialiste en musique technologique moderne.
Le public a très bien reçu la musique de Dragon Nation
qui, je le crois sincèrement, a un bel avenir.
Si tu as manqué ce bon spectacle, console toi! Le groupe, je l'ai appris en quittant la place
en me faisant remettre un flyer
promotionnel, sera au Rock Fest pour la santé mentale cet été. Je suis bien
contente d'apprendre que ce groupe a déjà d'autres spectacles à venir. Ne les manquez pas la prochaine fois!!

Where were
you metal head who loves Power Metal or good Heavy Metal this Friday, 10 April?
Well, if you weren't at l’Alizé for Dragon Nation show, you missed something.
The young band Dragon Nation delivered a show and its album launch and let me
tell you, it was a strong show. I said above, 'young band', this is not because
the musicians are young, but because the group exists only since 2013. The
Group makes compositions in the style of Old School Heavy Metal, Neo Classical
and Power Metal. It has an album released in 2014, of the same name as the band
and it seems like it has another album in creation. We can say that this band
is working hard. When the friendly singer tells us that the band was formed for
the pleasure of playing music, without great goal and that its members are
composing their songs in their spare time, my only thought is that they have a
lot of spare time... Their pieces are played to perfection, the heart and
passion are there, and the talent is obvious.
The show
started on time after a sound check which scared me a bit. The sound did not announced to be good. Finally, from the first notes of the show,
the sound was very good. The public
walked towards the scene, excited to hear the songs. Despite the fact that the
group exists since recently, it has fans and the place is quite busy. After the
first song, I knew I was dealing with serious musicians and experienced ones.
They are perhaps more advanced in age, but they all have the energy of a
youngster. So their age is indefinable.
The
dynamism on stage is the first thing I noticed from this band I discovered on
that evening. I am not a usual listener of Heavy or Power Metal, but I always
appreciate when I see humble, passionate, generous and talented metal
musicians. Actually, I have a confession to make; I love Metal Heads, whatever
the type of music they play. I was well
served this night with Dragon Nation playing. The unison among the member is
perfect and I was surprised to hear Burke Mc Auley say that it was their first
show as Dragon Nation.
Burke is an
experienced singer who made his proofs in the world of Heavy Metal. He actually
was the singer of the cult band Graveyard in the 1980s. He has a large note
register that he projects to us wonderfully. He holds his influences, among
others, from Judas Priest, Helloween, King Diamond and Ronnie James Dio. The
song Eternity is indeed very influenced by Ronnie James.
When the
band played this piece, we also could see the great talents of Roland
Bujold. He changes from the classical
guitar to the electric guitar in the same song. To do this, he has a stand to
hold his classical guitar while he slides his electric guitar in his back. I
must confess that I was not really listening to the song or watched any of the
other musicians at this time. It was really impressive to see this grey headed
gentleman play guitar like he does. It must be said that Roland Bujold has 30
years of experience and made solo albums with Bujold Power Metal Band. He also gave us a superb neo classical piece
entitled Burning Skies in which we see that he masters more than well its
guitar neck on which his fingers go on with speed and control. So that he takes
a small break and plays with his teeth... He is accompanied, for this song, by
keyboardist Steve Murray.
Steve is
also an outstanding musician. We were treated to a solo which was simply
hallucinating. I've never seen a keyboardist as active on stage before. In
addition to him playing notes in a speed worthy of Janne Wirman, he jumps
around and seems to be dancing between his 3 keyboards. With these words, you
can understand the caliber of musicians who was on stage that night. After
these patterns part of high virtuosity and solo, the public is now very heated,
through the blazing energy that emanates from the stage but also because of the
beer... The Group continues with Symphony of Fire, a piece that has a taste of
the classical Power Metal songs.
Drummer
Russel Labadie, also demonstrate its ability to control its rhythms. He even
uses a gong to add texture to his solo. Before the last song, the band makes us
discover a piece of their next album. Onward we march is a song with a flavor
of Viking Metal. There must be people who are anxious to hear this new album
because some Legolas heads began to go with the flow which enhances the
atmosphere that was already good.
After the
last piece, the public asks for an Encore. The Group had prepared accordingly
and played classical Helloween and Deep Purple songs. I want out and Speed King
made the delight of many in the crowd.
It is also at this moment, that we had a solo from the bassist Bernard
'Burn' Biron. 'Burn' also provides back
vocals and leads the group in another dimension with its musical notions. He is
a music teacher and a modern music technology specialist.
The public
very well received Dragon Nation music which, I sincerely believe, has a bright
future. If you missed this good show,
console yourself! The group, I learned upon leaving the place with a
promotional flyer, will be at the Mental Health Rock Fest this summer. I am
very happy to learn that this group already has other upcoming shows. Don't
miss them next time!
