Wacken Open Air (Allemagne du 4 au 6 août 2016)
Une autre année s’accumule pour le prestigieux festival de musique métal qu’est le Wacken Open Air à Wacken en Allemagne et qui aura lieu du 4 au 6 août 2016. Naturellement comme beaucoup d’entre vous le savent déjà, rattaché à ce festival, il y a aussi le Wacken Metal Battle qui réunit tout près de 30 groupes venant de partout dans le monde et pour une 4ème année consécutive le Canada n’y échappe pas.
Avant de parler du festival en lui-même, nous devons nous arrêter à la compétition Canadienne qui s’est déroulé d’Est en Ouest. Alors tout près de 5000 kilomètres de compétition métal sur une période d’environ 6 mois pour arriver à une grande finale qui a eu lieu le 11 juin dernier à Toronto. Encore une fois certains changements se sont produits comme de nouvelles villes en compétition, mais aussi des prix plus alléchants.
Ce fût une compétition fort relevée et beaucoup d’aspirant au titre mondial se sont inscris au concours du Wacken Metal Battle Canada, mais seul cinq groupes ont rivalisés durant le grande finale : Profaner – Distorthead – Tales of the Tomb – Pyramid Theorem et The Mountain Man. N’oublions pas que le groupe Crimson Shadows a fermé la soirée en guise d’invité de marque.
Dois-je vous rappeler que pour les 3 premières éditions, 2 groupes canadiens ont gagnés la compétition mondiale au Wacken en Allemagne et il s’agit de Crimson Shadows et Vesperia, tous deux de l’Ontario. Il ne faut pas oublier qu’en 2014 le groupe Mutank avait quand même fait belle figure. Pour 2016 ce sera encore un groupe ontarien qui représentera le Canada, il s’agit de Profaner (originaire d’Hamilton). Naturellement comme vous le constaterez, il n’y a aucune photos pour ce reportage car comme je suis le photographe de Québec-Métal, j’ai eu la chance cette année d’être juge officiel de la compétition pour Montréal et Ottawa.
Maintenant retournons au fameux Wacken Open Air. Pour tout Canadien qui étaient présent l’an passé, on l’a échappé bel car mère nature a failli tout gâcher avec un orage sans précédent inondant même le terrain du festival. Mais le festival ne s’est pas bâti une forte réputation sur rien, au contraire, le professionnalisme et l’équipe du festival a tous mis en œuvre pour que le festival débute à temps et dans de bonnes conditions et quel festival ce fût! Imaginez un seul spectacle sur les deux plus grandes scènes, Trans-Siberian Orchestra et Savatage en même temps et complémentaire l’un et l’autre. Des groupes comme Sabaton – Judas Priest – In Flames – Kataklysm et plus encore sur 3 jours ont tout dévasté.
2016 ne fera pas exception et avant même le début du festival, on pense déjà à un succès assuré. Pour ceux qui ne le savent pas, le Wacken Open Air est un des rares festivals métal sur la planète qui peut se vanter d’avoir vendu tous les billets pour 2016 le lendemain même de l’édition 2015 et aussi d’attirer une foule venant de partout dans le monde dont des fans du Québec, mais aussi du Canada.
Je vais essayer de vous citer certains des groupes majeurs qui foulerons les planches du Wacken 2016, mais dites-vous qu’il y en aura encore plus (le lien sera en bas de texte)
1349 – Arch Enemy – Blind Guardian – Bullet for my Valentine – Dio Disciples – Dragonforce – Entombed A.D. – Iron Maiden – Girlschool et bien des dizaines et dizaines d’autres. Alors ce sera encore une autre édition de qualité à prévoir.
Donc avis au Québécois et Canadien; le 7 août au matin, préparez votre carte de crédit pour acheter vos passes 2017 et qui sait pour ceux qui y seront en 2016, on se rencontrera peut-être sur le terrain du prestigieux festival qu’est la Wacken Open Air.

Wacken Open Air (Germany, August 4 to 6, 2016)
Another year accumulates for the prestigious metal music festival that is the Wacken Open Air in Wacken, Germany which will be held August 4 to 6, 2016. Of course as many of you already know, attached to this festival is also the Wacken Metal Battle that brings close to 30 bands from around the world and for a fourth consecutive year Canada is no exception.
Before talking about the festival itself, we have to talk about the Canadian competition which ran from east to west. It was a metal competition spread to close to 5000 kilometers that went on for about 6 months to reach a grand finale which took place on June 11 in Toronto. Again some changes have occurred as new cities in competition, but also more attractive prices.
It was a strong competition and many aspirants to the world title registered to the Wacken Metal Battle Canada, but only five groups rivaled for the grand finale: Profaner - Distorthead - Tales of the Tomb - Pyramid Theorem and The Mountain Man. Remember that Crimson Shadows band closed the evening by as special guest.
Need I remind you that for the first three editions, two Canadian bands have won the world competition at Wacken in Germany and it is Crimson Shadows and Vesperia, both from Ontario. We must not forget that in 2014 the band Mutank distinguished itself. For 2016 it will be again a band from Ontario representing Canada, which is Profaner (originally from Hamilton). Of course as you will see, there are no pictures for this report because as I am Québec-Métal photographer, I was lucky enough this year to be an official judge of the competition for Montreal and Ottawa.
Now back to the famous Wacken Open Air. For any Canadian who was present last year, we escaped a disaster as Mother Nature almost ruined everything with an unprecedented storm that flooded the festival grounds. But the festival has not built a strong reputation on anything, on the contrary, the professionalism of the festival team was responsible for the festival to start on time and in good conditions and what festival it was! Imagine a single show on the two biggest stages, Trans-Siberian Orchestra and Savatage at the same time and complementary to one and the other. Groups like Sabaton - Judas Priest - In Flames - Kataklysm and more over 3 days have devastated everything.
2016 will be no exception and even before the festival starts, we already think it going to be a sure hit. For those who do not know, Wacken Open Air is one of the few metal festivals in the world that can proud of having sold all 2016 tickets the day after the 2015 festival and also attract a crowd from all around the world including Quebec fans, but also from Canada.
I'll try to give you some of the major bands who will be a part of the 2016 Wacken edition, but tell yourself that there will be more (link will be at the bottom of text)

So advice to Quebecers and Canadians; On the morning of August 7, have your credit card ready to buy your passes for2017 and who knows, those who will be there in 2016, we might meet on the grounds of what is the prestigious Wacken Open Air festival.
